Healing the Gut could be the single most important priority in achieving optimum levels of health. Everything happens in the gut, from digestion and assimilation of nutrients, to the strength of our immune system, as well as the production of most of our serotonin. We have these tight junction barriers in our guts that are responsible for being the line of defense in keeping toxins, microbes, and undigested food particles out of the blood stream. The tight junctions essentially act as the intelligent gate in our gut wall to prevent intestinal permeability. However, everything from poor diet, chronic stress, frequent gluten exposure, toxic overload, and bacterial imbalance can degrade these gateways, causing the intestinal lining to become leaky, creating leaky gut syndrome.
Once this dam has been broken its a free for all for all the toxins to dump into your blood stream and cause a whole list of inflammatory issues like: food sensitivities (mostly dairy, gluten), inflammatory bowel disease (which is linked to IBS and ulcerative colitis), Crohn’s disease, autoimmune diseases, skin issues like acne and psoriasis, mood imbalances, malabsorption (especially of B12), bloating, chronic inflammation of the joints, adrenal fatigue...get my point here, leaky gut pretty much affects everything.
The most common cause of leaky gut is a condition called dysbiosis. Dysbiosis is an imbalance between beneficial and harmful species of bacteria in the gut. Basically, there are more bad guys then good guys in your inner ecosystem, creating an environment for the yeasts to take over and wreak havoc on your gut lining. This is a result of a history of antibiotic usage, lack of probiotic rich foods, high sugar consumption, and it could have even started as a baby if you were put on formula, instead of getting the most important nutrient of life from your mother, her first milking or colostrum.
But enough with all the depressing ways your gateway can be permeated, it happened, and now its time to work on the healing process.
To start, make better lifestyle choices by removing foods with refined sugar and toxins that damage the gut, incorporate more healing foods like fermented foods and bone broth, and introduce some supplements like L-glutamine to help seal the gut lining.

Grateful Gut Smoothie Recipe
- 6oz Raw Milk Kefir ( Organic Pastures in California)
- 1 scoop Vanilla Bone Broth Protein
- 1 TBS Bulletproof Collagen Protein
- 1 TBS Dr. Formulated Prebiotic powder
- 5 grams L-Glutamine
- 1/2 tsp Bulletproof Vanilla Bean powder
- 1 TBS Lakanto (or no sweetener)
- 1/4 Vanilla Stevia
- 2 shakes cinnamon
- Pinch pink salt (upgrade w/ half tsp Premier Research Labs Polar Mins)
- Half cup ice
